Modern distance education is an important education style in China. With the rapid advancement of information technologies, especially computer multimedia technology and network technology, the distance education becomes an open complex giant system with enormous components and anfractuous relationship between them, causing its complicated structure and distinct features, such as openness, hierarchy, emergence, and immensity. It is requisite to adopt new theory and methodology to solve problems of complex distance education system. Therefore, complexity science and Hall for Workshop of Metasynthetic Engineering are chosen to study the emergence of insightful thinking and the improvement of cognitive ability in distance education system.
