Abstract

Over the past five years, there has been tremendous interest worldwide in the concept of a reusable online learning resource, usually referred to as a learning object. While this interest has been accompanied by a number of international developments such as standards for learning object interoperability, there are numerous questions and problems surrounding the development and use of reusable online resources for e-Learning. This paper highlights the issues that have gained significant attention in the field over the past five years and draws attention to the problems that still plague the widespread adoption of learning objects. The paper concludes by suggesting how some of these problems might be alleviated.
